St. Columba

  St. Columba
  posted June 12, 2012

Dear Pilgrims,  This is a very special day in the Celtic Christian calendar (as well as Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Anglican Communion and Presbyterian communities of faith).  It is a FEAST day in celebration of the life and ministry of St. Columba/Colum Cille, who by establishing an abbey on the wee island of Iona in 563, brought Christianity to Scotland.  I hope you will find a way to celebrate this day with feasting, music and gratitude (maybe a scone or two).  May the wee isle of Iona always be a thin place of healing and light.

Blessings,  Pilgrim Susan Copeland

O God, by the preaching of your blessed servant Columba you caused the light of the Gospel to shine in Scotland: Grant, we pray, that having his life and labors in remembrance, we may show our thankfulness to you by following the example of his zeal and patience; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.  Amen.
